Our Programs

Comprehensive programs designed to build conservation capacity and protect African wildlife through education, research, and community engagement.

Student Training

Conservation education across many African institutions faces significant challenges. Chronic underfunding and a strong focus on theoretical knowledge mean that many students graduate without the practical skills necessary to succeed in the field. This gap makes it difficult for young conservationists to find paid work, often forcing them to volunteer for extended periods without compensation — or even leave the field entirely for other careers.

This skills shortage has serious consequences: it limits the growth of a strong local conservation workforce, leaving critical efforts to protect African wildlife dependent on foreign-led initiatives.

Challenge:

Educational institutions in Africa are underfunded and mostly teach theory even for practical-based courses like conservation

Program Components:

  • School visits and educational outreach
  • Hands-on field training experiences
  • Professional seminars and webinars
  • Specialized short courses in conservation techniques

Research Support

We support student research by ensuring study design, data collection, analysis, and reporting are scientifically rigorous and robust. Through this initiative, students conduct research on species of their choice, with a focus on those threatened with extinction.

Our goal is to generate data-driven conservation evidence that deepens understanding of the threats facing endangered species and informs practical solutions.

Our primary research areas include population dynamics, animal movement, and behavior at human-wildlife interfaces. We also assist students in securing and managing funding through grants, enabling them to tackle real conservation challenges while developing their skills as conservation researchers.

Research under our program extends beyond wildlife to other natural resources, with dedicated mentors guiding students throughout their projects. By increasing the number of trained researchers focused on species at risk, we contribute meaningfully to global conservation efforts aimed at preventing extinction.

Research Focus:

Population dynamics, animal movement and behavior at human-wildlife interfaces

Program Components:

  • Research design and methodology guidance
  • Field data collection training
  • Statistical analysis and reporting
  • Grant writing and funding support
  • Focus on endangered species research

Community Outreach

Communities are vital to conservation, especially in Kenya, where over 70% of wildlife live outside protected areas. Empowered communities can better protect wildlife and reduce conflicts, creating a more sustainable future for both people and nature.

Our community outreach programs focus on:

  • Reducing human-wildlife conflict and promoting peaceful coexistence
  • Educating communities on the importance of conservation
  • Increasing tolerance in conflict-prone regions
  • Providing tailored educational programs based on research-backed solutions
  • Introducing innovative technologies to help communities manage wildlife interactions

Collaborative Conservation

Community conservation areas often face limited resources and competing priorities. Our collaborative conservation initiative helps by

Technology Focus:

Advanced monitoring and protection systems

Program Components:

  • Resource allocation optimization
  • Illegal activity hotspot identification
  • Conservation technology training (EarthRanger)
  • Human-wildlife conflict mapping
  • Technical capacity building
