Student Training
Conservation education across many African institutions faces significant challenges. Chronic underfunding and a strong focus on theoretical knowledge mean that many students graduate without the practical skills necessary to succeed in the field. This gap makes it difficult for young conservationists to find paid work, often forcing them to volunteer for extended periods without compensation — or even leave the field entirely for other careers.
This skills shortage has serious consequences: it limits the growth of a strong local conservation workforce, leaving critical efforts to protect African wildlife dependent on foreign-led initiatives.
